Running the VIN through SAAB is the only way to be sure.
A few things which will give you a good indication that it's a real SPG (but not positive, because things can be swapped in or taken off by an owner):
"Premium Gas Only" sticker under the gas filler.
Part number on the APC controller reads 7524127 (7566599 is the "normal" APC controller.)
Side skirts behind the doors on natural-born SPGs have self-tapping hex bolts with 10-mm heads fastening them to the car through the hole in the bottom front of the car. The dealer-installed units I've seen have been fastened down there with pop-rivets.
Door side-skirts on my '89 SPG have pop rivets with black-painted heads.
Springing on the SPGs makes them ride about 1" lower than a stock C900T.
Buffalo Grey leather seats. Grey interior.
Make sure that the bumper extensions don't have pleats on them where they meet the bumpers, like the normal C900s have.
Caveats:
The Primo Gas Only sticker might have been removed if the car was repainted.
The 7524127 APC controller might have either been swapped into a non-SPG car. Or, a desperate owner, incredibly sick of base boost, might have put a 756599 APC box into his car after the one that came with the car went south just to make driving it tolerable - like I did.
In any case, a well cared-for of C900 turbo is nothing to sneeze at and can easily be modified to be faster and handle better than a stock SPG.
