95 900SE Convertible Reliability?

Is it fair to assume the 95 900SE Convertible I just bought is a fairly reliable, as well as safe car? There don't seem to be a lot of problems and complaints on the BB for the model and year.
But our mechanic warns me we're heading for trouble with a car that's likely to have one (expensive) problem after another. He has, affordably, made a '79 MG Midget a daily driver, so I'm convinced he knows of what he speaks.
Our 117K mile, 2-previous owner Saab's pretty well loaded, incredibly comfortable and a joy to drive with the V6 and manual transmission. We've replaced front brakes and tires ($700) and head gasket seal ($300). The oil pan gasket needs replacement, and perhaps the timing chain if it wasn't back about 80K miles.
Despite my misgivings, I've fallen in love with this beauty. Still, I have to concede I'm retired and disabled, so, I won't have lots of money for repairs. I anticipate driving it near our mountain cabin on some pretty awful roads, and down into Denver a couple days a week. Alternatively we could leave it at our place down the hill and drive it in the horrible Denver traffic (a/k/a "parking lots").
Any support for my assumption of reliability, a place to buy a magic wand to make it that way, or other feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.
