First, this is the wrong BB...this should be on the NG900 BB.
Second, is your mechanic a Saab mechanic? Most people who don't know anything about Saabs will say what he said. Find a mechanic thats not so negative about the car.
Third, and this is what concerns me, is your car has a timing belt, not a chain! Big difference! If you can't find out when it was last changed, CHANGE IT NOW!! The timing belt system is downfall of the V6 and is what makes it the least reliable engine that Saab offered. If the belt is changed at its proper intervals, the engine will be quite reliable. If not, it will break and start hunting for a new engine. If your timing belt was updated with the newer style tensioner, then you can go about 60K miles, if not, IIRC the interval is 30K miles.
So, find out when it was last done (any Saab dealer can tell you if it was done by a dealer). If you can't, make sure it has the updated kit and do it now! If it doesn't have the updated kit, have it put in now! If the service was done at 60K, then you're about ready to do it now anyways, so have it done.
