It's a crankshaft from 1990 or older. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Crank Bolt Crisis, 93Vert, Fri, 27 May 2005 06:53:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
They changed the crank in 91 and part of it was a fine threaded crank bolt and a longer snout that the crank pulley rides on, so on the 91 and up you need a spacer between the pulley and the crank bolt but the older ones have the bolt head right up against the pulley.
Since I'm a doom and gloom person I'm very suspicious to mixing and matching parts from different years because it usuallu comes back and kick you in the behind so I hope that someone else can chime in and say that it is no problem using an older crank in a newer engine.
I'm also suspicious to a shop when they say that "all" cranks are the same without acknowledging that they did infact split, first in 86/87 and then in 90/91.
