they tend to warp the metal if you try to put any more than a tack weld on the seam, so I lap joint whenever possible(unless I cut the patch to small). I've been using a weld-thru coating on the parent metal and patch, so the area that's lapped is supposedly not bare metal after welding. Those flange tools are nice, but when doing a floorboard, who cares if the metal doesn't fit as well as factory > but the patch really only would stick up the thickness of the metal used > which isn't much at all. I POR15'd everything after the driver side patches, then seam sealed, still have to spray some undercoating yet.
