AC - no freon / vacume, drier & hook up question

ok.. here is my situation.
my 87 C900 has been idle for many months while I have been restoring it. I will be ready to start her up in about a week.
I totally redid the ac system. New compressor, condensor, dryer, hoses, switches etc..
right now I have everything connected with new "o" rings except the rec/dryer.
my question is - If I connect the rec/drier to the hoses, can I wait a week before I pull a vacume on it and refill with freon?
or
will connecting the hoses now and letting it sit for a week or so - pull all the moisture in the system into the rec/drier making it useless?
I know the rec/driers are about 20 to 30 bucks, but I rather not ruin a brand new one by being stupid and not asking someone first.
can someone please let me know as I want to connect everything tomorrow on my day off if I can.
thanks
