Those details matter my friend, or how else can those of us with experience give you helpful information pertaining to your specific car?
DIY rack rebuild? I'd love to read about one of us doing a rack rebuild. As is, they require special tools to take apart, and then you have to find the parts kit, which I've never seen listed anywhere. I've lucked out with a used rack replacement by pulling one from a car with low miles in good shape and no evidence of leakage. Then I flushed it thoroughly and I regularly refresh the fluid, flushing once a year. So far so good. With your engine out, you can do a lot, including a tranny upgrade, if you require one based on year and milage. This is the time to do tranny work if you need it, as well as engine bearing work. Plus alternator and PS pump bracket rubber bushing work. Maybe even the crank pulley.
