I'm in Chicago, and I have the Assurance Comfort Tread on my Saab and the TripleTred on my MB TurboDiesel. Both ride very good and have excellent traction in rain. The TripleTreds seem slightly noisier, but that should come as no surprise as they have a high void design.
I put a set of Falkens on my wife's 240 before we got married. Those tires has so little traction in the rain that I took them back the very next day.
Dunlop makes excellent tires, I have a set on my MGB. Those tires are sticky enough to keep my from spinning the wheels. I'm not sure how treadlife is, as it's just a weekend car.
My opinion on tires is to buy the best you can afford. I wrecked my Saab when I first got it because the tires were worn/dry-rotted/hard-as-nails and I could not stop in time (dry pavement).
Good luck.
