The harmonic balancer is hard to replace on a 900, so you want to be sure that's the problem. As to interchangeability, you're going to want to go new.
To check the balancer (main pulley), grab a piece of chalk or a wax pencil, and put on some old clothes. Climb under the car, where the back of the engine faces the firewall. Draw a line across the face of the main pulley (lowest pulley on the engine). Make sure you go from rim to rim, across the middle (bolt face). Now, start the car a few times. This is best done cold, for two reasons. First, you aren't crawling around a hot exhaust system, and second, the pulley tends to slip more when cold. After a few starts, look at the line on the pulley. If it is still straight across, the pulley is OK. If the line isn't straight, where the inner portion has rotated with respect to the outer portion, you have a bad pulley. Also inspect the rubber 'sandwich' between the pieces - if the rubber looks cracked and worn, it's time for a new pulley.
