Best story of a DIY project gone wrong...??

I ordered a new slave cylinder and spacer ring to do a clutch job on my '86 900T. Removed the turbo ducting and clutch cover. Installed the ring, removed the slave. Installed the new one and put everything back together. As this was my first time doing a slave replacement, it did take quite a "while". Started up the car to make sure everything was done right and heard this terrible metal on metal sound. Shut it off and discoverd that I forgot to remove the spacer ring. Ordered new part and tool(it was mangled beyond use) and did the job a second time. This turned a job that should take a couple of hours into a job that took 3 days. Doing it for the second time was really of no help. It took just as long as the first time. Tried to save money by doing it myself and ended up probably paying more by the time everything was done.
