The front mount deteriorates and allow the engine to twist in its two side mounts when revved. Check the underside of the hood padding for abrasion marks that match up with the higher points on the engine, or carefully do this:

Get to an open area like a parking lot, open the hood, start the car, put it in gear and hold the brake down hard so it can't move. Let the clutch out as you rev the engine and see if the engine rises in its mounts. If it does at least your front mount is shot, possibly your passenger side also, due to the exhaust heat.

It could also be that your shift linkage needs some of its couplings replaced and the shifter adjusted. Mount is a $35 part and an hour or so to put in, a DIY 5 out of 10 difficulty for a minimally experienced mechanic. Search the board on the topic, its discussed a lot.
