If you buy a car that has been neglected you can't count the amount it takes to bring it up to snuff. Beyond that you said it cost $3000 over the past two years. That's $1500 a year, roughly $125 a month--which is not an excessive amount for an older Saab or any older car. It's simply the cost of driving. Unless you're being victimized by an incompetent or dishonest mechanic(which is a possibility),if you've spent that much on it, there can't be much left to go wrong. I think you're suffering from The Straw That Broke The Camels Back Syndrome. I'm sure you can get a converter for around $150, don't let someone else benefit from all the work and money you've put into the car. How about posting a sketch of what you've done to the car and how much you were charged for it. At least then we can tell you if you're being victimized and give you an idea of what you might be in for in terms of future repairs.
