Chances are you have a bad Hall effect unit in the distributor. First pull the plug on the side of the distributor and check the connector. These are brittle and break often. If wiggling the wire while cranking gets the engine to pop, then you know the problem is with the Hall unit.
The easiest way to check for sure is to swap in a known good distributor.
The ignition module on the fender liner might also be bad.
You can get a rebuilt distributor from Jim at sobstory(site sponsor 800-583-0370). He also has the ignition module.
Bentley has a complete ignition troubleshooting procedure on these items.
