The '92 shoud have the same cable attachment.
The danger of getting a junkyard unit is that the odometer drive gear in that one may well have died, too. My experience is that it appears to be more related to age and the rate of plastic shrinkage than the number of miles driven. The odometer in my '88 900S died at 214k miles, but the one in my '88 SPG died at 86k miles, within 6 months of each other. The one in my '89 SPG died at 106k miles, about a year later. Granted, a limited sample of 3 out of tens of thousands of 900s doesn't make a complete, scientific study.
There was some discussion about this very subject last week. One thing to contemplate is to get the one from the '92, replace the odometer drive gear, and install that one. (one source of replacement drive gears [probably the only one] is http://www.odometergears.com/)
