New Cylinder head with problems

I just had my 2.0 L turbo head rebuilt (16 valve) and after installation it ran fine (other than idle hunting which is a different issue) for about a day. I took it around the block, and let it sit overnight. The next day the head was making some horribly loud noises coming from the head. I took the valve cover off and found that the camshaft bearing caps were way over torqued to approx 50 or ft-lbs instead of the proper 11 ft-lbs!
I re-torqued them, but I notices the oil is sooty (yes I replaced it after the head install), and it smells like gas. Is it just my lifters or do I have broken valve springs? ALSO, all lifters seem firm when I press down on them, and the head is so loud I haven't dared drive it. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
