Thanks for all the great advice. I went ahead and ordered the right angle shaped hose for my turbo since I knew that one wasn't in good shape and I ordered a new rotor and distributor cap.

I replaced the hose and thought I had the car working perfectly but then it just about died on me and starting backfiring and sounded absolutely awful as it tried to stall constantly. I got two blocks from home (a small miracle considering the last 3/4 mile I drove) and then it died completely and wouldn't restart. Luckily, I noticed rather quickly a clicking noise whenever I touched my turbo housing and realized that it was some sort of grounding issue.

I then noticed that the connector (hall sensor) on the side of the distributor was loose. I used an oversized metal screw to hold it in place until I could get it home. Yesterday, I did more homework using the search section of Saabnet and quickly learned that my problem was experienced by many people with classic 900's of my age. I have since used some JB Weld to glue it back together. I also put some electrical tape around the actual terminals to keep them from grounding out on the housing if it gets loose again. So far, so good.

So... I've replaced the turbo hose which may or may not have fixed the original problem. Or the hall sensor might have been the original problem which I made worse while working with the distributor cap and replacing the turbo hose. Who knows? My next step, when I get some free time will be to replace the rotor and distributor cap. Should I use channel locks to remove the rotor and Locktite to secure the next one per the instructions in my Bentley manual? There is only a quick blurb on this procedure. Does anyone have experience they would like to share on this topic?

Thanks to everyone who keeps my wonderful old Saab happily running and more fun than my 1998 Volvo S70 and 2000 Chevy Suburban (which gets to sit in the driveway and not guzzle gas at 17 mpg and $2.50 per gallon).

Regards,
Trevor
