AC belt broke, now stuck, safe to drive a few miles?

On the way to work this morning, my AC compressor belt broke. Instead of just falling off, it got mangled in the works and now looks like it's stuck tangled up among the other pulleys, mostly the alternator/water pump pulleys. I drove it another 3 miles to the office and it didn't seem to be causing any problems, only a thumping/rumbling sound that you'd expect.
Now, my question is, am I going to damage something if I drive this another 10 miles or so taking it to a shop? I've tried to pull out what remains of the belt, but it's stuck in there good. It looks like there is only a small piece left.
