The EZK uses a timing sensor at the crankshaft pulley, while the distributor is completely empty of sensors. Twisting the distributor does absolutely nothing until you twist it far enough for the spark to walk off the side of the rotor. Then you get nothing... There's supposed to be match marks for positioning the distributor, but I don't own that car any more so I don't remember exactly what they look like. Probably a scribe line on the distributor to match the split between head & valve cover.
The timing is controlled by a hall-effect sensor under the crankshaft pulley, at about 11 o'clock if you're looking at that end of the engine. Can't really see the sensor, but it's wire goes past the alternator bracket, alongside the block, to a plug near the throttlebody. Even removing the crank pulley, there's very little slop in the mounting bolts for adjustment. Check timing with a timing light before screwing around with that.
High idle may be the AIC valve, near the thermostat. When it's not powered, it opens 1/8" on the backside of it's shutter; that's the high idle of the limp-home function. Check it's electrical plug for dirt/loose/corrosion or ??
Know how to read ECU fault codes? Go to the LH FAQ (linked below) & scroll all the way to the bottom. Use your jumper/tester to do those tests which exercise the functions. Particularly these:
- Make sure you hear the AIC valve (12412), otherwise look for open wiring for that.
- Make sure you see the throttle-closed signal (12424) or check wiring to TPS. I'm assuming you checked the TPS works, but maybe you didn't verify its wiring back to the ECU.
