Vacuum leaks are the bane of the turbo driver.
If you haven't already done it (and I may well be preaching to the choir, so don't mind my ramble), replace the vacuum lines without a thought of trying to test them. Old rubber vacuum lines can have more more miniscule cracks in them than the number of holes you can fit in Albert Hall. Change the rubber bushings that hold the vacuum nipples into the intake manifold and valve cover. And ... change the rubber bushing that holds the PCV bayonet into the plastic turbo duct - it has a thin spot that tends to wear through. Unfortunately, that one is a dealer item AFAIK.
One more vacuum leak source that somebody brought up recently - the throttle body has 2 rubber seals where the throttle shaft goes through. They're a bit more involved to replace the one on the left side, but the one behind the TPS is relatively straightforward. That's solved wandering idle issues for some guys on the board. I think that these are dealer items, too.
Another maintenance item is to clean out the area arond the throttle plate, like you mentioned. 900Ts can get a lot of oil gum buildup there. Some gumout spray or carb cleaner spray, a soft toothbrush, and a lint-free rag will work wonders there.
