Bad battery/ignition switch???????

My 92tc 103,000mi, last week started giving me trouble on startup.
When you turn the key to the first position, the radio comes on,
then turning to "start", everything goes dead--no dash lights, nothing.
On multiple attempts at turning the key, upon release from start, the
dash lights come on and the starter kicks. Finally, an attempt at start, everything lights up and the starter turns just fine, starting the car. The radio needs the code input to operate then. Until yesterday, the car ran fine after that point. I ga$$ed up yesterday, started the car up on the first try, and pulled away from the pump$, the car dies, and the stereo starts asking for the security code. THe battery was new in Feb. Should I have it checked? The ignition switch looks like it will be a job to replace. I have checked the battery connections at the battery and
on the body-everything is tight(I cleaned the connections at the battery
only). Does anybody have an idea where to look???? THANKS!!!!
It seems that power to the whole car gets killed, because sometimes
after releasing the key from start, everything is dead.
