Reason for doing this...

I've been having problems with the car not starting after being driven and the outside temp being hot. During these times, there is no sound at all when trying to start the car. No click, no whir, nothing. The dash lights come on, and everything electrical works, the car just won't start. If I get a jump from a donor car, then the car starts right up.
I had posted about this problem before, and was given some things to look at. I used a hygrometer to check the strength of the battery cells, and they were all 3/4 strong, except for the one closest to the negative terminal, which showed as completely dead. The battery is only one year old. Then the problem wasn't happening anymore (outside temp cooled off slightly), so I was not able to test the starter to rule out that component (vs. the battery).
Now that it is hot and muggy again here in CT, the problem is back, and I need to attempt to start the car by using the jumper. I still do not know whether it is the battery, starter, or alternator.
There is nothing I can't do or try to do when working on my cars, except for when it comes to playing around with the spark-emitting items. These things get me every time!!!!!
