Decided to try out the APC box tweaking and see what happens. I had already installed a 3.0 bar FPR, as well as new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and checked the timing. WOW! I adjusted the base boost (shortened the rod length) and by doing so, I am no longer stuck in the mid-yellow range. It also got rid of the annoying "tinny" sound I would get everytime the clutch was engaged or idling (I think the wastegate was rattling since the actuator rod was not applying tension to it probably due to tired internal springs).
I am now boosting into the red zone. What a beautiful feeling! Granted, tweaking the box added some more boost, but I'm not fully there yet. I am currently running on 87 octane fuel since the high-prices were killing me (I commute 150 miles per day) and the car was never boosting anyway. Once that tank is gone, I will use premium (93), and then check my adjustments again.
A couple of questions:
I turned the F pot 1/4 turn clockwise. Is that enough? Can I go any further or am I asking for trouble?
I have been messing with the P pot, increasing it 10% each time. So far I've applied a 30% increase. 10% more and the screw will be maxed out. What exactly am I looking for with this adjustment? I was assuming faster spool-up, but I really don't notice any difference.
Will using the 3.0 bar FPR decrease fuel economy all the time, or just when I'm driving it hard?
Does the APC system limit boost in 1st? I'm noticing practically no boost in 1st, but then it all kicks in with the rest of the gears (2 thru 5).
