In your first post you said that the boost gauge goes into the yellow. So if your boost gauge is reading "correctly" and it's connected to the intake manifold, then YES you are getting boost. Whether you FEEL the sudden explosive acceleration is another story and may be related to other system issues (fueling, timing).
One check you can do to see if your boost gauge is working is to take a bike pump with a built in pressure gauge and connect it to the vacuum hose that goes to the boost gauge in the dash. It should be somewhere t-ed off under the intake manifold. To connect the pump to the hose, it helps to have a pump with presta valve fitting. Anyways, if you pump it up to 15 psi, see where the needle goes. If its somewhere in the mid to high yellow, then there is nothing wrong with your turbo. How else would the needle go up while you are accelerating? It also helps to have a vacuum pump to test if you have any leaks.
So assuming the AIR is getting to the cylinders, the next question is are you getting the correct fuel mixture? Has your mechanic looked at this? Have him hook up a fuel pressure gauge to see that you have the correct fuel pressure. Maybe your injectors are clogged. Replaced your fuel filter lately? Throw some injector cleaner into your tank. You could be running real lean. Your mechanic should also check your O2 sensor to make sure it’s reading correctly.
Have you checked the compression on your engine lately? Maybe your engine is tired and just can't handle the higher pressure. May need new rings.
If your compression is ok, check your timing. Maybe your timing is a little retarded or your vacuum advance is not working correctly. A correctly timed engine will produce the maximum torque with the correct fuel mixture. I run my turbo at 19 deg BTDC and it feels strong. However, I do run water injection so be careful about advancing it too much as detonation may be a problem.
I don't think your radio is the cause. Believe it or not a radio install did affect my car's performance! I had an 87 SPG that had an aftermarket radio with subs and amps in the back installed. Well the stupid installer routed the power wires behind the LH (computer) box!
