I had the same issue when I did mine earlier this year. The outside edge of the eye of the hole in the bottom of the shock is gnurled, so it basically "digs into" the metal of the rear control arm as the bolt is tightened.
What I did was to stick a crowbar underneath the bottom of the shock and pryed it upwards, compressing the shock as much as possible. This allowed the shock to rise out of the control arm slightly. Then I had to lower the rear axle to the point that the bottom of the shock free'd itself from the arm (very easy to lower rear axle: put jack under center of axle, then remove the torque rod from the control arm (can leave it attached to the car body) on both sides, then slowly lower axle).
Good luck!
Joe
