Shifting Issues

My 1993 900S 16 Valve [5 speed] [100K] has exhibiting some symptoms which I think are related, but I still am puzzled at what the basis for these symptoms might be. The first of these symptoms has been seen when I start the car, mostly in morning after it has sat for a number of hours. Here, when I depress the clutch with the trans in reverse and turn the starter, the car lunges a bit because the clutch has remained engaged even though the pedal has been depressed. After a bit of messing with the clutch and putting the car in neutral, the car can be started and the clutch system operates with no problem. The second issue has occurred when I am driving. Here the shifting mechanism will not go into first after stopping. After some messing around, turning the engine off and moving the shift around, this problem will correct itself and the shifting is o.k.. Any ideas? Thanks- Wild Bill
