Not really that important, but if you're interested, most of the Sunbeam Tigers came with 260 cu in motors, then the last of the Tigers (mostly MK II's, of which they only made 700-some) had 289s. Of course most Tigers have been 'upgraded' by now, as no modification is required to fit a 289 or 302 to any of the cars

I think the Tiger has given the Alpine a reputation as a good 'transplant' car, but I feel that's a misconception. They had to hack up the Alpine body shells quite a bit to make the Ford small block and Toploader transmission (or Borg-Warner T10 on the first 50 or so cars) fit, just like you'd have to do with any other car of the Alpine's genre. When Chrysler UK bought Rootes motors they considered switching the Tiger to the Chrysler V8, but had difficulty making that motor (with its rear-mounted distributor, etc) fit in the car. They cancelled the model, but continued making Alpines for a while, then cancelled them too.

Don't know how it is now, but I suppose the Alpine could have been considered a good transplant candidate at one time, if for no other reason than its relative unpopularity. You could get 'em cheap!

BTW, there's two English cars in that list, as the Sunbeam and Humber were both made by Rootes Motors of the UK.

Thanks for the interesting thread CK!
