new tires, brakes, bad rear caliper weekend

Time for new tires this past weekend. So while the tires were off I did a once over of the early 80's brake system, just spot checking to see if anything looked out of the ordinary. The front calipers I rebuilt over the summer and they looked fine. I knew the rear needed new brake pads and looked to reconfirm. While attempting to spin the right rear hub I noticed serious drag. Hub wouldn't spin without considerable pressure. Not good. A seized caliper, no doubt. The e-brakes are located on the front, so there's no reason for any pad pressure to exist minus pedal pressure. The left side spun normally. Never having disassembled the rear calipers, I didn't know exactly what i was in for, but found the chore really easy. Once the right system was in pieces, the problem was obvious - the fluid channels were blocked with a thickened gunk and the piston surfaces were fouled up with whatall, despite the rubber washer/boots being sound. Cleaned everything up with solvent and steel wool, relubed the pistons and o-ring and re-assembled, added new pads, purged the air. No leaks and all is well again in my C900 world. The car is breaking like it hasn't in a long time. I have no idea how long that rear caliper was dragging. No evidence of overheating, but it couldn't have been good for gas milage, what to speak of pad wear.
