The sensor and the signal wire both have a small voltage going through them . So why are there various peopie saying a resistance test ( accidental in my case ) on the signal wire will damage the sensor ? I just read an article at howstuffworks.com that said you can damage a sensor with a resistance test and they definately were not referring to the ECU getting damaged . How can the resistance test's voltage damage the sensor if it has voltage in it normally ? Is this because some people's meters put out a lot of power during a resistance test . It seems like the average DIY guy that might not know better always has a low power output resistance test meter . Or is it the case that once your meter adds any small power input to the voltage already present in the sensor , you can do slight damage to the sensor's subtle chemical coatings , such as slightly altering the zirconium or whatever else is in there ? I'm not saying the sensor wouldn't work any more , just be thrown off or slowed down a little by the slightly higher than normal voltage and remain this way . Then meters that put out higher voltages would do incrementally more damage until you get to the case of someone accidentally testing resistance on the signal wire with high output and rendering the sensor inoperable . I know my meter most likely put out low power during my accidental resistance test and I now know the signal wire is puting out what appears to be the correct voltage flux . What I cannot now discern is if the flux is fast enough . This is partly due to not having a good enough meter and partly due to not knowing the correct flux ( crossover ) speed because I have heard of different rates from various people ; all for a correctly functioning sensor , not a " slow " one . Thank you for any input .
