Did you tighten the pinch bolt on the coupler and get the taper pin in all the way?
You may want to recheck the shifter alignment per the Townsend Imports page (sorry to repeat if you've already been pointed to that page.) What I usually do to get the transmission into 3rd is pull back on the shift rod that comes out of the transmission as hard as I can to lock it in.
One thing that really helps with the pinch bolt on the coupler is something that Chadwick posted on 9/12. I tried this technique about 40 minutes ago and it puts every other technique I've used for the pinch bolt to shame. He gets about 30 inches of 3/8" extensions, takes the drivers' side wheel off and goes in through the drive axle porthole. Man, it is so darned easy - no contortions, no oil and dirt dropping on the glasses.
