alternator / batter drain

boy.. I'm doing great here.. man - things just keep happening to my car..
ok.. got a rebuilt alternator, was used by someone for about 30k miles.. I replaced the regulator on it to be safe..
brand new optima red top battery and new pos battery and ground cables..
brand new belts as well..
ok.. here is the problem.
I was tightening the oild pressure sender and didn't disconnect the battery.. I touched the nut on the back of the alternator and it sparked..
now I have charged the battery 3 times and it keeps going down to nothing..
did I fry the alternator.. *sigh**
or is thier anything I might be able to check before thinking the worst?
