A second ground is a good advice! I had a strange electrical problem on my '86; the alternator seemed to charge the battery, but it turned out to only charge enough to keep the low voltage light out. I think it only was grounded throught the bolt that keeps the alternator in place. A second ground wire fixed the problem.
