Honda MTF with syncro problems in older systems

Years back, I thought I would get on the Synthetic Oil band wagon and I filled my 88 900C with Castrol 10-30 synthetic. Much to my surprise, the oil went through the system like the Proverbial Christmas Goose. From that point on, I used regular Castrol 10-30 and 5-30 during the winter and I drove it 270k. The only thing that stopped it, was when it was totaled by the insurance company of a driver who did a sloppy left turn in front of me and I clipped him. My present issue is with my new winter mobile, a 93 900S with 100k. Recently, I had problems shifting. The initial impression was a clutch master cylinder. I bought the part went and to visit my Specialist. Before we began the procedure, it was determined that we had missed the fact that the slave cylinder/clutch had gone south. This had developed after an additional 200 miles. After all was said and done, the car was shifting smoothly in all cases, except that there was a difficulty in down shifting into 2nd at speed. Every thing else went smoothly and 2nd worked at low speed for a down shifts, but I noticed and my 2 experts did also did, that at higher speeds, there was difficulty/ grinding going DOWN into 2nd. Logic would suggest the syncro for 2nd was going south. I looked over threads on this topic and Honda MTF got strong reviews. From this, I wonder whether the viscosity with the MTF would present the same problem as the synthetic oil did in the worn engine of the 88. Or "am I looking at the problem backwards and the MTF and double clutching might make the syncro problem something that could be done down the line.
Thanks W.B.
