Jason,
When your ABS and Brake Fluid lights stay on (hopefully not the parking brake as you said) it means the hydraulic system is unable to fully pressurize. This leaves you with dangerously low reserves of brake assist. Three possible causes:
Brake fluid leakage from a piston, a line, or in the clutch hydraulic system, or air in the lines. Is it bled properly?
Bad ABS pressure switch
Faulty "brake bomb" accumulator.

Also, when my alternator died and the battery reached critically low operating voltage, those diagnostic lights would come on pretty close to the whole thing shutting its eyes and going to sleep.
Be advised the accumulator is around $250 (or less if you get creative) and readily available; you can carefully change it yourself.
Also be advised the ABS main hydraulic unit (with the reservoir and accumulator and all the valves and such) is upwards of $1500. No, not fifteen bucks. Someone has one of those for sale in the "Parts Classifieds" section of this site. If not, junkyard shopping you go.
The switch is pretty cheap.
After I started my convertible up (in storage over the winter) the diagnostic lights would stay lit for 10-15 seconds, then shut off.
After I start my convertible after sitting overnight, the lights stay on for 7-8 seconds, then shut off. This is normal as the system comes up to its (incredibly high, talking thousands of PSI) operating pressure.
I hear the pump kick in about every ten or fifteen times I step on the brake. I think my accumulator is worn, and will replace it over the winter. If your pump kicks in more quickly than that, it's safe to say you should fix the problem before driving anymore.
