I positioned a drill rod

a bit less than twice the diameter of the intended gap as precisely centered on the center platinum electrode as possible with a Rube Goldberg style triple clamp and tiny vice grips arrangement and then just bent the electrodes in to touch the rod. Of course, the geometry involved results in the gap being larger than half the diameter of the drill rod, but the result was at least .015" less than what the plugs had originally. I admit that the result was imperfect in that the spark probably now goes to whichever outer electrode is closest all the time, but it made the car run better at a time when the daughter was home for a very short visit and upset about the bad idle, so I had to do what I could quickly -- I don't recommend this as a way of using +4 plugs in a SAAB, only as evidence of what their problem is in these cars.
