Sorry, I should be more explicit.
I'm not sure about multi-tipped plugs; some on the board have had adverse reactions to them.
The aforementioned "tuneup" is:
change the oil if it's due
change the plugs if it's due
add FI cleaner unless it's been under three months since the last time
find out the last time the fuel filter was changed (optional, not really part of the "Italian bit"), and now the fun part.
around half a mile above 4000 RPM with the throttle wide open. It heats up the combustion chambers and blows all the carbon deposits out, even if they're sitting on the valve seats.
You may notice just about anyone on the expressway who suddenly downshifts or floors the accelerator that a puff of foul-smelling black sooty gunk puffs out of the exhaust pipe. That's where those deposits go.
If this happens often (it's only problematic on different cars) make sure the plugs you put in are the right temperature range and you get the car out to stretch her legs every once in a while. Frequent short trips build up these deposits in a hurry.
The only time I experience this problem with my Saabs is after three weeks of using light throttle and coasting downhill and never getting over 2500 RPM, my annual summer gas mileage contest.
