I'm a little confused as to exactly what pulled out with your key. My experience is that once the lock pin is depressed and the key is in the run position (could be start position, I forget), the complete key cylinder pulls free. Then on that cylinder core is another pin of sorts that allows the internal core to pull free from the outer cylinder, thus allowing one to service the tiny bits, springs and so forth. If you've pulled the entire lock mechanism cylinder from the shift console, there's nothing else to remove. If just the inner most cylinder, then I understand your problem. If the outer cylinder is still in there, you should at least be able to rotate it. Perhaps all you need to do is align it in the proper position (run/start?) and pull it out now that the lock pin is not an issue. Old grease and grime is certainly a possibility as to why it won't pull free. I'd use WD40 or some other solvent to get things moving.
