Masters and slaves (cars and mechanics) Posted by CMyles [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: All Fluid drips out of clutch area overnight!, Greg, Sun, 18 Dec 2005 08:39:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
St Louis huh. (I know all the V4's there). The unit with the resevoir on it is the brake master cylinder. There is a hose leading from the bottom of the resevoir down to the clutch master cylinder. So the 2 masters share a resevoir. There are no slave cylinders on the firewall. The clutch slave is in the bell housing and the brake 'slaves' are the calipers at each wheel. If you have rebuilt the brake master then you may very well have a leak from the clutch master now. Clutch masters are real easy and cheap to rebuild and perform well if no pits in the bore. I have a freind that rebuilds them 'in situ' while laying under the dash! The leak onto the floor under the bell housing is a blown out clutch slave cylinder or a shot hose. See my recent posts for a technique for bleeding the clutch hydraulics that works faster and easier than any other technique I've ever tried. Five minutes garanteed. Be sure that the fluid on you foot (inside the car) is brake fluid. It could also be coolant from a leaky heater valve. Good luck. CMyles.
