My theory on dash cracks

-- the dash is a spanning structure that flexes. Note that on rally cars they have cross braces spanning the top of the suspension points. This boxes in the body and reduces the flexing. I put these on the top of the shock towers on my 911 and the amount of flex in the body was almost eliminated, unless I went airborne and burned a re-entry to earth (my original Landjet).

If I did not have the wonderful experience of removing the knee blaster, I would not be prepared for this commentary. The dash is so firmly attached to the fire/fenderwell -- I think that because the dash has to flex with the body, over time there is a loading/unloading of the upper and lower parts of the panel. Just like a wing panel on an airplane. So, through the years of this loading and unloading, and the thermal cycling of the sun giving it a tan, I can't imagine any plastic type material that would stand up to that kind of punishment.

Or, are they cracked by valets who can't figure out how to get the key out of the ignition, and bash on the dash thinking that will fix the problem.
