I started a head gasket replacement job this week... so far I have about 7 hours into the job and the head is still on the car. How long should this job take int total?
I am at the point where I need to pull the head. I think I will try to pull the head with the exhaust manifold attached. The turbo has been removed.
Here are my questions:
Bentley and Twin Saabs mention using a dowel to align the head during removal. Do you get a dowel the same size as the head bolt and try to thread it into the block, or is a thinner diameter dowel sufficient?
How do you "pry" the head off? Does leaving the exhaust manifold attached during head removal help give leverage to break the seal between the gasket and the head?
