Similar thing happened to my '94 turbo convertible; once warmed up the car would stumble from time to time at idle, sometimes losing it altogether. Felt like intermittent fuel starvation. Felt expensive. Couldn't figure it out until one day I was having my coolant flushed in the jiffy lube, sitting in my car staring into the open hood with the engine running, and it did again - except this time I saw that the stumble happened when the fans kicked in. You could hear the sound of the palm of my hand hitting my forehead for blocks around.
When I got home I disconnected the battery (which was fine), cleaned up the posts and clamps, checked the major cable connections, screwed it all down tight, and haven't had the problem since.
Don't know if this helps, but I wouldn't discount the basic electrical stuff on these cars.
