Check each of the small wires at the back of the alternator. The dash light needs to come on when you turn the key, but the motor/alternator not spinning. There's 12 volts which goes down the wire, through the bulb and into the alternator to excite it. Once the alternator starts putting out power, the voltage goes back up the wire through the bulb and the light goes out. Sometimes crimp connectors can fool you into thinking there's a good electrical connection because they usually have a mechanical conection for strain relief too. I would cut off the old spade type connectors, strip and recrimp new ones just to be sure the wire is not corroded and causing problems. If you still do not get 12 volts to the alternator to excite it, run a separate one with a light bulb in series with it and see if you can get the alternator to product power. Tell us how you make out.
