I have an 89 tranny, so our boxes are designed similar. If you're lucky it's just the coupling c-clamp that connects the tranny rod to the shift rod. If I'm following you with your description, fourth is now engaged with the stick aligned more toward you, or left of it's previous vertical position. If that's the case, then the tranny rod rotated a little counter-clockwise in relation to the shift rod, making 2nd unable to engage because of the design limits of the stick assembly. To remedy, all you need do is reset the shift rod more toward the right with the tranny in 3rd gear. 3rd because the adjustment/tightening nut on the c-clamp is accessible in 3rd. So, if you can get it in third, crawl underneath (car is up on wheel lifts, or other means to raise the front enough) and loosen the 13mm nut (combination of socket, flex piece, extension), then re-adjust the stick shift more toward the right (away from you while sitting in the car). How far? I'd go in half inch increments. The tricky part is making sure the stick doesn't completely lose orientation before you retighten the nut. I've done it enough to know how much to loosen the nut, then realign. On my car, 3rd and 4th gear stick alignment is vertical. A helper making sure the stick doesn't move when the nut is loosened, then held fast until nut is retightened, is best.
