wasnt too bad. i actually had the old brackets un-spotwelded and cut off, then new ones put on. they weren't too bad cost-wise, about 40 dollars each for new brackets. my old bumper which hadn't been damaged in the accident fit up very nicely. only sign is slightly larger gap under r/h sidelight than on left.
if you want to do the repair yourself and just straighten your brackets, you can put a block of wood against the far side as a brace, and using another block of wood hit the bracket sideways on the round bolt end. a little heat applied would probably not be a bad idea, but don't get it too hot to remove the temper from the metal. they are just formed sheet metal brackets so they're not too tough.
another option might be to brace something against the wheel or hub or frame and then lever against a long pole to shift the bracket over, but don't know how well that would work.
be aware, that if your old brackets after straightening are sitll a little bent/wrinkled, you may lose strength in a front end accident (head-on) because of the pre-existiing damage to the brackets.
also, if you bend them sideways you will also need to check the up/downess of them to make sure your bumper is sitting where it should be.
hope that helps
mark :-)
