a little background -
'90 SPG, a couple months ago I started noticing a burning smell from around the alt. soon followed a pulley bearing sound, but still couldn't ID the alt (pulley spun freely). Eventually, the alt failed with partially seizing and a batt light. I replaced the alt.
So now, occasionally when its cold or the car has sat, when I start the car the batt light will remain on and the rpms somewhat low. I have to tap the gas to get the rpms up and batt light out.
I wonder if this is a symptom of:
1 - glazed belts. they're somewhat noisy and may have been slightly slipping during the long failure.
2 - tired battery. its going on 6 years and was slowly drained during the alt failure. took a good full charge though.
3 - some other ignition or cold start item.
crank pully is newish and been checked. I think its old battery, but I don't understand the low rpms. Its cold enough (MN) that the typical cold start keeps rpms around 1200 until the car warms. Then a stable 850.
Thanks for any ideas.
