Crazy Nick,
Recommend that you look at Jeff and Royce's site fixmysaab.com for info on C900 transmission rebuilding. Get a Bentley's manual for putting the engine/trans back together and getting it back into the car. Is it a turbo or NA? Turbo just means that there are more parts to put back together.
It is doable, just need an engine hoist, time and someone to help you get it back in the engine bay. While the engine is out, may want to consider crankcase seals, racks, oil pump seals, water pumps, etc. easier while its out.
Last thought is that you might want to pick up a used unit to put back into the car while your rebuilding the existing one, you might luck onto one, you never know. There were classified ads for $250-500 used, $1000 rebuilt,up to $1500 for a complete rebuild from site sponsors. Since the C900 transmission is <100lbs, it is possible to ship UPS for <$100 in the US.
