Hey Nick,

I have been rebuilding my tranny for months now! Then again I'm not the most motivated person in the world. Here are a couple things I have learned:

-Replacing the pinion bearings is a must but it's no walk in the park to tighten the nut back to spec. You have to get a spring scale and measure the rolling torque to 10 - 15 lbs I think it was. I used a press first to get it measurable on the scale. Then it took me pulling on a very large wrench (47MM I think?) and my friend to hold it in the vice. Putting all I had behind it (which at 320 pounds myself that's saying a lot!) it wasn't easy to move that nut. When it moved we would check and eventually got it to spec.

-Next is after putting that shaft in you have to measure from the pinion bolt to the mounting surface. It has to be between 7.667 and 7.668 inches or something like that.

This is a couple things that come to mind. I certainly have expanded my tool collection in doing this myself! I was told if these things aren't to spec bad things can happen. I don't want to do it again so I'm taking no chances.

If your tranny is all apart replacing the synchro is easy. You remove the clip from the gear (after holding the spring down) and it all comes apart. Put the new one on and put the clip back on.
