I have the Gislaved Speed 506 tire on my '92 900 convertible and put around 15k on them this past summer. I thought they were out of production. I also got a ridiculously good deal on them. They are quiet, grippy, and predictable. I only use 15 inchers so price comparison and handling/performance are apples and oranges, but I try to avoid extreme driving with the convertible's chassis. That said, sometimes it's just fun to lose whoever's been lighting up your mirrors as they understeer around a corner behind you.
All I expect from my tires are decent grip (especially cornering and braking), and predictable wet weather traction. I finally got them to hydroplane a little, but it took half an inch of rain on the roadway at over 50 miles an hour. No alarms and no surprises there, which is what I demand since I'm accustomed to snows.
The tread seems to be wearing evenly; I rotate every oil change. It takes a big bite with the metalmasters to get any wheel to lock, or a moderate bite on wet pavement. They'll understeer while cornering in the rain, but I've found the transition point to be linear and predictable.
No complaints. I thought they were out of production. I honestly hope I don't get a flat (beyond plug-sealed) because I don't think I'll be able to find a replacement tire. They're nothing super-special but fine for throwing around an exit ramp or two from time to time. Overall I'd say 9 out of 10 except for high price and lack of availability. I have no track or autocross experience, but they're awfully tempting.
