BB, Seems that I once had a bad TO bearing that did just what you are describing. The bearing still has light contact with the clutch cover springs when it is drawn back and a bad or dry bearing can (apparently) make noise with light load and none with full load. Or your plastic shroud is bent in and rubbing on something (but you wouldn't feel that in the pedal). I don't think such a problem could be related to the high idle. If tht battery light stays on at start-up when it's fridgid then it's either a lame battery or something is reducing alternator output. Frozen belts letting it slip maybe? Then they warm up and grab better. Maybe frozen bearings/grease in the alternator. (Man that's reaching, huh?)
