I'd say this sounds electrical more than the accumulator. There are several conditions a failed accumulator might result in, but I'm not sure how it could ever be temperature or time related...
I would definitely check all the electrical connections, relays and voltages on the myriad sensors under the hood and hook up a fuel pressure gauge some early morning to see what's what. FWIW, I drove my '80 900T (back when it was an 8v) with a bad accumulator for months. My 99T didn't seem to notice it didn't have one at all, but YMMV... :D
