Sounds like you might have a bad ABS relay, pump, or pressure sensor. Could be other problems with ABS, but start with the basics. Essentially, you are not able to pressurize the system.
With the engine off, turn the key to on...not start. You should hear the ABS pump start up and hum for about a minute, until pressure has built up. I have a hunch that you will hear nothing indicating no power to pump. This could be caused by a bad relay, a bad high pressure sensor that is not letting the pump turn on. With the key on and the hood open, go over to the ABS relay and fuse box near the P/S reservoir and give the relays a whack with a screwdriver. If the pump goes on, the relay that responded the to the whack is stuck. If nothing happens, you can pull the relay and use a jumper wire to directly power the pump. You will need a wiring diagram to fine the right pins. If you don't have a Bentley manual Townsend might have some wiring diagrams. If you can't get the pump to run with direct power, the pump might be shot. If you can find a friend with a Classic 900 with ABS, try swapping the known good relays.
If when you did the first test, the pump ran but did not stop after a minute or so, and just kept running until it overheated, you have a stuck relay or a bad pressure sensor on the side of the ABS control unit.
I seem to remember that you cleaned all the connectors to the ABS unit. If not, clean ALL the electrical connections.
If in the end you determine that the pump is bad, a pump can be replaced, but it is not easy to do without removing the ABS control unit. Swedecar knows how to do it and I think he has made a special tool/wrench to get the motor out with the ABS unit still installed. Plan B would be to get a complete ABS unit from a junkyard, since the OEM unit is big $$$$.
I'm hoping you have a relay problem, which is fairly common and happened to me. Good luck.
